Guard Your Heart — Only What Is for Allah Remains
Guard your heart against the glitter of the world. Do not let it become so entangled in what is temporary that the eternal home slips quietly from your sight. Everything you hold so tightly today—wealth, status, possessions, relationships, even this body you call your own—will one day leave your hands. The grave takes nothing with it. Whatever remains is only what you sent ahead for the sake of God.
The world is a subtle seducer. It does not always deceive us with cruelty; often, it whispers gently. It dresses its promises in beautiful colours and persuades us to believe that comfort will last, that separation is still far away, that there will always be another tomorrow.
But a thoughtful heart knows better.
The sun rises only to set. Seasons change. Youth gives way to age. Strength slowly yields to weakness. Those we love arrive in our lives, walk beside us for a while, and eventually disappear beyond our reach. Nothing in this world was ever promised permanence.
So live in the world—but do not let the world live inside you.
Enjoy what is wholesome. Love what is beautiful. Cherish your family. Earn your livelihood. Use the blessings placed in your hands. But never allow the gift to take the place of the Giver.
For love, when it crosses its rightful boundary, becomes a chain. And the most beautiful chains are often the hardest to recognise.
Build, instead, a treasure that death cannot confiscate: a prayer offered with a present heart; charity given quietly, without an audience; patience held together in the hour of trial; a truth spoken when silence would have been easier; a tear shed in solitude when no one was watching.
These are the things that travel beyond the borders of this life.
This Friday, pause.
Look inward and ask yourself: What has my heart become attached to? What am I afraid to lose? What am I holding so tightly that I am forgetting the One who gave it to me?
Loosen your grip on whatever is pulling you away from God. Strengthen your hold on whatever draws you closer to Him.
Because when everything else falls away, the scales of the Hereafter will not measure what you possessed, how loudly you were praised, or how much the world remembered your name.
They will measure what you did for the sake of God.
Everything else will remain behind.
The road is clear. The destination is eternal. And the time we have is far shorter than we imagine.
