Trend Trader The Wheel of Success Traders Psych Post 31jan2012

Abdul Hakim Shaikh
The Wheel of Success
Abdul Hakim Shaikh

There are three spokes that make up, what one can call the “Wheel of Success” as it relates to trading.

The first spoke is content:

Content consists of all the external and internal market information that traders utilize to make their trading decisions. All traders must purchase value-added content that provides utility in making their trading decisions. The most important type of content is internal market information (IMI). IMI simply is time and price information as disseminated by the exchanges. After all, we all make our trading decisions in the present tense based on time and price. In order to “scalp” the markets effectively, we must have the most live and up-to-date time and price information seamlessly delivered to our PCs through a reliable execution platform and/or charting package. Without instantaneous time and price information, we would be trading in the dark.

The second spoke is mechanics:

Mechanics is how you access the markets and the methodology that you employ to enter/exit your trades. You must master mechanics before you can enjoy any success as a trader. A simple keystroke error can result in a loss of thousands of rupees. A trader can ruin his entire day with an inadvertent trade entry error. Once you have mastered order execution, though, it is like riding a bike. The process of entering and exiting trades becomes seamless and mindless. Fast and efficient trade execution, especially if you are trading with a scalping methodology, will enable you to hit a bid or take an offer before your competitors do. Remember, the fastest survive.

The third and most important spoke in the Wheel of Success is discipline:

You must attain discipline if you ever hope to achieve any level of trading success. Trading discipline is practiced 100 percent of the time, every trade, every day.

‎1. Don't dig yourself into a hole early in the day or in your career.
Be willing to observe the market and make an informed decision. Missed money is
better than lost money, so wait patiently for the best opportunities to arrive.

2. Trade with a blend of anticipation and confirmation.
Balancing these two will mean that you adopt a system of "if this happens, I will do
that." Wait for your pitch!

3. Beware of your trading process following a winning streak.
Many will make money in the market, but discipline is required to KEEP it. Stay on your guard at all times !

4. When you lose, don't lose the lesson!
Forget the names but remember the events. Those who don't remember the past are
doomed to repeat it. Make mistakes with composure and character, without
blaming others, and don't dwell on mistakes.

5. When in doubt, get out.
Scrutinize your positions at all times, each day, and you will not be left holding a
stock without reason. Be willing to change direction at any time, because your
flexibility as an individual investor is a big advantage which should be embraced!

6.You are too greedy.
Thinking about trading profits instead of how you could better execute your plan is
an obvious sign of greed.

7. Finally (perhaps most important), always be in patience.
Long-term patience will keep your confidence and optimism high, and short-term
patience will help you wait for the best trades. Success doesn't come easy, and rarely
are fortunes made overnight. Be willing to pay your dues and put in the work in
orWhen all you have is the "OPPORTUNITY" to trade, sometimes traders find
themselves clicking into trades just to be involved with the markets.

9.Do you find yourself making acceptances for your trades that are not in your plan?
What causes this? Is it a need for action? Is it a need to be right? Is it a fear of
missed opportunity? One of the reasons many traders struggle - over trading or
forcing the trade.

10.The most common misconception among new traders is that they have to
constantly be in the market.

11.Remember it's not the quantity of trades you take, but the quality of your trades
you take.

12.By being in the market all the time the trader does not give him or herself a
chance to pause and will eventually lose because of the unfavorable market
conditions.

13.Don't force trades just because you feel you need to be in the market.
14.Trading out of boredom is the worst reason to be in the market. You have to be
in PATIENCE !

15.Patience is one of the keys to becoming successful trader.

16.Patience will keep you from overtrading.

17.Patience will give you enough time to observe and look for a potential setup for
the next trade.

18.Trading is all about probabilities. You must make many trades to get the law of
averages to work in your favor..

19.You blame others when the full responsibility is yours.
Accepting responsibility is the fulcrum point for succeeding in anything, especially
trading. Doing something about it is the criterion. Execution is the reward, not the
money. Money is the by-product of executing to plan. Do not blame the broker for a
bad fill, when it was you who hesitated. This is just one example, but we are all
aware of many others.

20.Losing traders often take themselves quite seriously and seldom find
humor in market analysis or the trading environment. Successful traders are
often the funniest and most imaginative people you will ever meet. They take joy in
trading and are the first to laugh or relate a funny story. They take trading seriously,
but they are always the first to laugh at themselves.

CONCLUSION:
Its no wonder that one of the first things psychiatrists test for when treating a
patient is whether or not the patient has any sense of humor about his affliction. The
more serious the tone of the individual, the more likely that insanity has set in.
COMMENTS:

Abdul Hakim Shaikh How true. "Successful traders are often the funniest and most imaginative people you will ever meet.

SRK slapped someone?? WHACK

SRK slapped someone?? Heard it is Farah Khan's Husband..ah! his two minutes of fame to an otherwise dull life ,Till now Shirish kunder was known as farah khan's husband, Shirish Kunder was bored of the tag "Farah Khan's husband". So he allowed SRK to slap him. New tag: "The guy who was slapped by SRK"

Shirish Kunder- Thappad se darr nahin lagta saheb, Ra.ONE se lagta hai. SRK- Ok, So here goes...*SLAP , SRK rocks.cant stop myself laughing very loud after Slap Gate .ab logon ko thappad se bhi dar lagega, Kunder now joins the club with Pawar, Sreesanth. Sharad Pawar, Shirish Kunder all 'S' getting slapped.. shirish kunder is trending worldwide thanks to SRK's slap to him , You can take a guy out of Delhi but you can not take Delhi out of the guy, delhi is proud..whoz next now sir srk..may be critics..beware..Slap Gate is the biggest SRK hit in a long time. He's back.,What will be SRK daughter telling to Farah Khan's son...? "My daddy strongest",
I suppose this is his "freedom of expression" Yeh Shirish Kunder ke Gaal pe star aadmi ka tamacha hai!!, Cricketers are acting and the actors are showing the fighting spirit.SRK slapped Shirish to prove that Sona Chandi chywanprash indeed gives taakat! Gauri Khan's Husband Beat up Farah Khan's Wife! What did Shirish Kunder say to Farah Khan when he reached back home..tumne hi 6 pack abs banwaye the naa ,Pad gaya chain..

Haar ke jeetne waale ko BAAZIGAR aur thappad khaake trend hone waale ko Shirish Kundar kehte hain. slap gate has got more attention than Chinagate ever got...

Agneepath (2033 A.D.) story: triplets to take revenge for their dad getting slapped by a super rich celebrity.Shahrukh khan slapped Shirish Kunder on behalf of the Family planning commission,When I saw the trending topic #slapgate, I thought this news may be the reason
Rakhi sawant: oh sharukh! Mujhe kyu nahi mara. Mujhe bhi faamuss kar do, hey jejus! Pleej! ,

Shirish Kunder was bored of the tag "Farah Khan's husband". So he allowed SRK to slap him. New tag: "The guy who was slapped by SRK" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbTM2MJpyTA&feature=youtu.be

SRK slapped someone??   http://jameelaahmed.blogspot.in/2012/01/srk-slapped-someone.html

Can you imagine if Shirish Kunder got the chance to tell Shah Rukh Khan, “Thappad se darr nahin lagta saab, pyar se lagta hai." The tables may have actually turned. Shirish may have actually joined the likes of Karan Johar and hopped on to SRK’s bum-chums bandwagon. But then, there would have been no slap, no controversy and no jokes. All of a sudden the now infamous slap seems a lot more exciting. What the exact truth is on the SRK-Shirish Kunder slap story, we’ll never know. But I’ll say this, as much as I’m a declared (and crowned) SRK hater, I think he may have done the right thing by whacking Kunder. Anyone who sports hair like that deserves a tight slap. However, keeping with my reputation of hating on the thug ala SRK, here’s a different angle to the situation. Since SRK has become the official slapper of the industry, I can’t help but wonder which stars would love to give King Khan a smack…or two.

Now! Shah Rukh Khan, Shirish Kunder call a truce

Shirish Kunder and Farah Khan went to Shah Rukh Khan's home at Mannat on Tuesday evening and patched up.

The truce was negotiated by Farah's brother, Sajid Khan and producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

The duo called Shahrukh  and Gauri Khan in the morning and fixed up a time with Farah and Shirish and went together for the meeting.

"Shah Rukh and I have sorted out our differences and our relationship has become stronger," Kunder told us adding, somewhat strangely, "No one knows what actually happened. Everyone is giving their own versions of the story."

"Such things happen in parties," he said, "We all were drunk and high and so we got into arguments. We sat down, chatted and spoke whatever was there (sic) in our hearts. We have sorted everything for good."

Kunder insisted that things were fine not only 'between SRK and Gauri and me but also between Farah and SRK'.

"We were at Mannat for (almost) three hours… and we laughed and cried. And I am grateful that my brother Sajid Khan intervened along with Sajid Nadiadwala and ended this (fight)," Farah Khan was quoted telling a television channel.

Shah Rukh Khan allegedly had thrashed Farah Khan's husband Shirish Kunder at Sanjay Dutt's  Agneepath success bash on Sunday

THE SNOW FIGHT METAPHOR "Traders Psych Post 30jan2012" (2)

There are many factors to being a successful trader. Many of them are all about how you go about trading. Which makes them some of the easiest yet hardest traits in yourself to catch and change. If you follow these suggestions or vows you can be on the right track of making a lot of money.

Almost everybody irrespective of their religion or faith start their day with some kind of a prayer. I have written a small prayer, before you start your trading, its basically affirmations, repeat them several times a day if you can and see the difference for yourself. Best times are first thing in the morning, second best is just before you retire for the day and third best is just after lunch. Here we go...

I am trading a tested system with crystal clear calls on market direction, position entry, stop placement, trade management, and strong psychological reasoning and support.

I realize that I create my own luck and fortune by study of the markets, focus on doing the correct thing in the market, and keeping my mind clear of illusions and "trading noise" created by the excess information in the markets and in the news.

Trading (put your market here, for me its Nifty) is fearless, killer, high-speed fun. It is not a place for me to be "conservative," passive, or "low key." I totally love trading (put your market here, for me its Nifty). I love the excitement of being in this business.

I only trade (put your market here, for me its Nifty) when I feel positive and idealistic. I believe I have already won the game before I begin. If I have any negative thoughts about trading now, I will not trade today because I will most likely lose money. There is nothing wrong with taking a vacation from trading if I'm not controlled and feeling well.

I totally agree that consistency is more important than being "right." Having the desire to be "right" is for beginners and making money is what the real professionals do, I am striving to be a professional every day by focusing on what is tested to really work - a method that produces steady profits while protecting me if I am wrong.

I keep exact track of all my trades, including profits and losses, I also keep a journal of my thoughts, such as why I did a particular trade and what happened during the trade both in the markets and in my head. In this way I track my skill development as a trader, as well as my mental development.

I trade for a living as a professional in business. As a business, I use a portion of my profits to further educate myself, take vacations and buy gifts for my loved ones who support my trading work, and I contribute to charitable causes.

I always take my family out for a long weekend on every last Thursday of the month till late Sunday night (Just after expiry).

THE SNOW FIGHT METAPHOR

Right now, I am reading a book called - Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom. by VAN K. THARP. In Chapter 6, Understanding Expectancy and Other Keys to Trading Success, the author has used a beautiful metaphor, by the name of THE SNOW FIGHT METAPHOR. Its basically about position sizing or money management. I liked it a lot, hence I am pasting it varbatim :

To illustrate the importance of all six variables, let me guide you through a metaphor that might give you a different perspective from one of just thinking about money and systems. Imagine that you are hiding behind a large wall of snow. Someone is throwing snowballs at your wall, and your objective is to keep your wall as large as possible for maximum protection.

Thus, the metaphor immediately indicates that the size of the wall is a very significant variable. If the wall is too small, you couldn’t avoid getting hit. But if the wall is massive, then you are probably not going to get hit. Variable 6, the size of your initial equity, is a little like the size of the wall. In fact, you might consider your starting capital to be a wall of money that protects you. The more money you have, assuming the other variables stay the same, the more protection you will have.

Now imagine that the person throwing snowballs at you has two different kinds of snowballs-white snowballs and black snowballs. White snowballs are a little like winning trades. They simply stick to the wall of snow and increase its size. Now imagine the impact of having a lot of white snowballs thrown at you. They would simply build up the wall. It would get bigger and bigger and you would have more protection.

Imagine that black snowballs dissolve snow and make a hole in the wall equivalent to their size. You might think of black snowballs as being “antisnow.” Thus, if a lot of black snowballs were thrown at the wall, it would soon disappear or at least have a lot of holes in it. Black snowballs are a lot like losing trades-they chip away at your wall of security.

Variable 1, how often you are right, is a little like focusing on the percentage of white snowballs. You would naturally want all the snowballs coming to your wall to be white and add to your wall. It’s probably easy for you to see how the people who don’t focus on the big picture might devote all their attention to making as many snowballs as possible be white.

But let’s consider the relative size of the two kinds of snowballs. How big are the white and black snowballs relative to each other? For example, imagine that the white snowballs are the size of golf balls, while the black snowballs are like 6-foot-diameter
boulders. If that were the case, it would probably only take one black snowball to break down the wall-even if white snowballs were being thrown at the wall all day. On the other hand, if the white snowball was the size of a 6-foot boulder, then one snowball each day would probably build up the wall enough to protect you from a continual bombardment of black snowballs the size of golf balls. The relative size of the two kinds of snowballs is equivalent to variable 2 in our model-the relative size of profits and losses. hope that by visualizing the snow fight metaphor you can understand the importance of variable 2. (ie. position sizing)

Trapped traders

Forex King
I like this group heading and I pray we will discuss psychology of trading, I have been hearing about Trapped traders and how effective trapped traders is. please if you have any Ideal or article about it post it here. thx

Seshareddy Veluri
my personal feel to control all types of psychology
we should open our trade details before success / failure of trade ( self arrest ) with full reasons / explanation slowly we should move our thoughts to wards saying that we are doing with system + own rules for accepting systematic gains / loss. this will give perfect faith gains only. this gains will give more satisfaction than what we earned.

if we tell only gain trades that is not right means still feeling more fear on trades.

we should discuss about loss trade also why and how we have to find

Wishing All of you a Very Happy Republic Day...!!! Lets Salute the Nation on REPUBLIC DAY!!!

Wishing All of you a Very Happy Republic Day...!!! Lets Salute the Nation on REPUBLIC DAY!!!

Good going, from 17 to 37 in just one day. Request all of you to add like minded people in the group, who can contribute or who is interested in learning something which is he first criteria for being a successful day trader and unfortunately very few people talk about, I welcome all of you to the world of Psychology of trader.

As far as what I think, believe and forsee is, if you want to see yourself as a successful day trader, you have to trade like a pro, without emotions, without greed. You overcome only these two factors, and you are on your way to the riches you desire and aspire to be.

First and foremost congratulate yourself for being in the industry, where earning money is not limited by your investment or hardwork or effort put in by you. If you just see the daily turnover of Nifty alone, it is bigger then some of the neibhouring country's economy. Your income is limited only by your imagination.

Barring couple of people, majority of you have decided to go with your indicator as your day trading setup, which dissiminate confidence, a positive attitude and a will to stick to your trading setup and that is what I desired from you experienced people, because if you were a beginner I can still understand in your curiosity of holy grail formula.

One of your primary tasks in beginning the search for the right trading system is to find out enough about yourself so that you can design a system that will work for you. Simply because, everybody is different. The second model is how great traders manage their money or determine their position size throughout a trade.

Once you have reached a place inside yourself where you can just be, you’ll understand the keys I am trying to cover in this small writeup:
1) the importance of exits to your profits and your losses;
2) the importance of position sizing to your equity; and
3) the importance of discipline to making it all work.

I’ve been modeling four keys to making money in the market:
1) the process of trading;
2) the process of doing trading research;
3) the process of making position sizing work; and
4) the process of becoming wealthy.

Which we will discuss at lenght some other time.

We typically trade our beliefs about the market and once we’ve made up our minds about those beliefs, we’re not likely to change them. And when we play the markets, we assume that we are considering all of the available information. Instead, our beliefs, through selective perception, may have eliminated the most useful information.

When your mind is open, start reading about the markets. I strongly recommend almost any book written by Jack Schwager. The psychological side of trading and investing is very critical and very important. Two other excellent books are by James Sloman -- Nothing and When You’re Troubled. The first book is about going with the flow- an extremely important concept when playing the markets. The second book is about getting rid of many personal issues that could prevent you from working at an optimal level. In addition, 1 also recommend Mindtraps: Mastering the Inner World of Investing by Roland Barach.

It’s all about how we’re wired-both culturally and biologically- to lose a great deal of money in the market. The good news is that we can overcome those tendencies.

Tomorrow I will give you some pointers as to how to find out enough about yourself, which in turn help you design a trading plan specifically for you which is destined to work successfully for you.

Meanwhile Happy Trading.

BJP promises Ram Mandir in manifesto

BJP promises Ram Mandir in manifesto,BJP revived Ram Temple issue promising construction of a grand temple in Ayodhya if voted to power. How can the BJP promise a Ram temple in Ayodhya in its manifesto when the matter is in Supreme Court? Isn't that unethical, misleading? The BJP's Manifesto could be a good English translation for the saying, Khiyali Pulao.” But how would one translate Khiyali Pulao?

Why is it that the BJP remembers Ayodhya temple only during elections? can we expect any north-Indian politician daring enough to promise to rebuild Babri Masjid? Advani made rathyatra against currption 2-3 months ago now BJP started ayodhya temple building...BJP can not find issues .
BJP is back to its seasonal Ayodhya Temple business ahead of UP elections! Hope people understand this and give befitting reply!the issue of Ram Mandir line is like virginity; once offered & taken... is gone forever, saying that it will build Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is just stupid. What UP needs now is more engineering colleges & not Mandirs , Inspite of the BJP playing Ayodhya Ram Leela again in UP, they won't have any reason for diwali now.

Why should everyone be so outraged at BJP promise of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.....their manifesto is just a bunch of papers to be sent to dustbin, BJP should get more imaginative in their manifestos rather than digging the grave again! It stinks, I swear!

Ram Mandir..... Ayodhya ; BJP http://jameelaahmed.blogspot.com/2012/01/bjp-promises-ram-mandir-in-manifesto.html

Salman Rushdie is poor, substandard writer: Justice Katju

PTI Jan 25, 2012, 04.48PM IST
(Katju went on to add that the "whole problem with the so-called educated Indians of today is that they still suffer from the colonial inferiority complex".)
NEW DELHI: Salman Rushdie is a "poor" and "substandard writer" who would have remained largely unknown but for his controversial book 'Satanic Verses', according to Markandey Katju, till recently a judge of the Supreme Court.
Katju, who is now the Chairman of Press Council of India, criticised the admirers of India-born author based in Britain, saying they suffered from "colonial inferiority complex" that a writer living abroad has to be great.

"Salman Rushdie dominated the Jaipur Literature Festival. I do not wish to get into the controversy whether banning him was correct or not. I am raising a much more fundamental issue," he said in a statement here.
"I have read some of Rushdie's works and am of the opinion that he is a poor writer, and but for 'Satanic Verses' would have remained largely unknown. Even 'Midnight's Children' is hardly great literature," Katju contended.
He went on to add that the "whole problem with the so-called educated Indians of today is that they still suffer from the colonial inferiority complex. So whoever lives in London and New York must be a great writer, while writers living in India are inferior."
On the controversy surrounding Rushdie during the festival which ended yesterday, he said, "I am not in favour of religious obscurantism. But neither do I wish to elevate a sub-standard writer into a hero."
Referring to the Jaipur festival, Katju said one would have expected "serious discussion on literature, particularly indigenous literature" of the likes of Kabir, Premchand, Sharat Chandra, Manto, Ghalib, Faiz, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Subramania Bharti.
"Kabir and Tulsidas are no good because they lived on the ghats of Benaras, whereas Rushdie is great because he lives on the ghats of the Thames! This is the mental level of our 'intellectuals and 'literati'," the former SC judge said.
Katju maintained that the whole history of the great Indian literature, rich in its variety, from Valmiki and Vyas to modern times should have been discussed.
There could also have been a discussion on foreign writers like Dickens, Shaw, Victor Hugo, Balzac, Flaubert, Upton Sinclair, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Gorki and Pablo Neruda, he said.
"Instead the total focus at Jaipur appeared to be Rushdie. Two personalities linked with films were projected as 'the finest poets' in India, though to my mind their work is of a very inferior order. This is the low level to which the Jaipur Festival sank," Katju contended.
He said India is facing massive socio-economic problems today and literature should address these. "The struggle which Kabir waged against narrow sectarianism, which Sharat Chandra waged against the caste system and women's oppression, which Faiz waged against despotism, which Subramania Bharti waged for nationalism and women's emancipation, which Dickens and Gorki waged against exploitation and social injustice - these are the matters which should have been discussed at Jaipur. Instead, Rushdie dominated most of the show," he said.

''Woh Haramzada Vijay Kahaan Hai;'' : Rishi Kapoor" was good at being bad in Agneepath

Rishi Kapoor" heart throb of all times!  was good at being bad in Agneepath
Rishi Kapoor in Agneepath

Watch Agneepath to see Rishi Kapoor deliver the performance of his lifetime, playing a character which won't be forgotten for years. Agneepath - a solid and worthwhile remake! hritik and sanju are very good! Baba lives up to his deadly Dutt image!! RishiKapoor..leaves u awestruck ! rishi kapoor is refreshingly evil, fabulous, and clearly my favorite in the film. As Lala, Rishi Kapoor delivers yet another masterful performance!
I was Jumping in the seat when he delivers his dialogue ''Woh Haramzada Vijay Kahaan Hai;''
Agneepath opened so well only because of Rishi Kapoor, when agneepath was announced they were talking about hritik, after watching trailer, Sanjay dutt and after watching movie, its Rishi kapoor all the way ..to see rishi kapoor sink his teeth into the pathan villains role was a special treat! Rishi Kapoor is the most villainous person in the movie. You love Kancha for his badness but u hate Rauf Lala (Rishi Kapoor) for his badness. Am i to believe that a bit of surma has actually brought out a deliciously dark side to the sunny Rishi Kapoor? Must try it at work.

Excited about Mehrunissa, a film directed by Sudhir Mishra and produced by Nikhil Advani.

Why? Because of co-star Amitabh Bachchan. Rishi, who has done several films with Bachchan, is thrilled because this is the first time they will be pitted against each other as opposed to playing supporting roles. Mehrunissa is a love triangle with a twist where two actors vie for the same girl. Meanwhile, the delay in deciding the leading lady in the film is because the actors who will play the young Rishi and Amitabh are still being finalised.Big B with Rishi Kapoor
