7 Travel Tips That People With Diabetes Should Follow

Having diabetes does not mean you cannot enjoy the fun and excitement that traveling brings with it. With some intelligent planning, you can enjoy your travels to the fullest and keep your diabetes in check.
Here are a few tips for you to be aware of for a healthy travel in the times to come:

1 . Carry Your Updated Prescription

Always carry a copy of your recent prescription along with any investigations done in the last 3 months while traveling. These documents can be life-saving during emergency medical conditions.

2. Carry Adequate Medications

Make sure you carry at least twice as many medicines and insulin as you usually need. Never store insulin in checked luggage as it may be exposed to extreme temperatures.

3 . Add Glucometer To Your Medicine Kit

It is important to monitor your blood sugar levels during travel. Always carry a glucometer with you. Additionally, you must also carry extra batteries and glucometer strips.

4 . Pack Your Healthy Snacks Along

To avoid sudden spikes in the blood sugar levels, carry small healthy snacks with you. Healthy snacking at frequent intervals will help to regulate the blood sugar levels and will not cause a sudden spike. Have small, frequent meals instead of three big meals in a day

5 . Get Moving

When you take a long flight or you go on a train or bus journey, make sure you keep yourself moving by doing simple stretching exercises. When you reach your travel destination, try and include a morning walk to your daily routine to avoid unnecessary weight gain and prevent further complications.

6 . Stay Hydrated

Keep yourself hydrated. Make sure you drink enough water through out the day. Avoid sweetened teas/ coffee, aerated drinks and other drinks that may cause spikes in the blood sugar levels.

7 . Carry Comfortable Footwear

Make sure to choose comfort over style. Carry comfortable shoes along. When ever you go out, make sure you wear good footwear. Do not go out bare feet on the beach as it could lead to foot complications.

Saifullah 's father thanks Rajnath for Parliament message

"Unka shukriya. Yeh sandesh purey India ke liye hona chahiye. Humare mantri chotey-chotey logon ko izzat dete hain. I thank the home minister. The message is meant for everyone in India. The minister respects even small people like us," says Mohammed Sartaj, slain militant Saifullah's father.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh said in Parliament today that the government was proud of Mohammed Sartaj. "I express sympathy for the father and I am sure the House joins me," Rajnath said in Lok Sabha while briefing the House over the Tuesday's Lucknow terror encounter. The minister said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will be probing the Lucknow encounter.

Image: Mohammad Sartaj, Saifullah's father. He has refused to accept his son's body saying what his son did was "not in the country's interest". "We will not accept the body of an anti-national," he had said.

Saifullah was allegedly one of nine members of a newly-formed terror cell. Saifullah was killed in a hideout in Lucknow after a 12-hour operation. Though commandos tried to capture him alive, he refused to surrender. After he was shot, an ISIS flag and a train timetable were discovered near him; investigators say he and other members of his group - "self-radicalised" and "self-proclaimed as an ISIS cell" according to the Uttar Pradesh police - carried out a bombing this week on a train in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh in which nine people were injured.

Saifullah's father refused to accept his body yesterday at their home in Kanpur, denouncing him as a traitor. "One who could not belong to the country, how can he belong to me?" said Sartaj Mohammed, who works at a small leather factory.

Though the UP police has said that the group with allegedly nine members had no external support, other officials including some in the National Investigation Agency, which is handling the case, say there are signs of a handler that guided them, most likely from outside India, through chat rooms and phone calls.

Sources say that the group complies with the pattern of ISIS cells busted in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, who were indoctrinated online, largely self-funded, and told to organize weapons on their own to attack local targets.

Dear Prime Minister Modi, I Am Seeing Neither 'Vikas' Nor 'Achche Din'

from THE BLOG of

Markandey KatjuFormer Judge, Supreme Court of India; Former Chairman, Press Council of India

To
The Hon'ble Shri Narendra Modi
Prime Minister of India
Dear Modiji,
I would have liked to personally deliver this letter to you, but unfortunately (or fortunately ) I am presently in America, and likely to be here for some time. So I am posting it here, with the hope that someone will forward it to you.
Modiji, the whole country was delighted when at the time you became Prime Minister in May 2014 you promised "vikas" ( development ) and "achche din" (good days), and we all thought that under your brilliant leadership India would soon become a land of milk and honey.
Even many of the existing jobs in India have been lost. Where then is vikas?
But Modiji, pardon me for saying so, even after almost three years of your rule, I am neither seeing vikas nor achche din—rather I am seeing mandi girawat, berozgari and bure din. Maybe that is the fault of my faltering and weakening eyesight. After all, I am an old man.
But what I hear is this:
1. The unemployment situation, which was already bad during the UPA regime, has worsened under your rule. One crore (i.e. 10 million or 100 lakh) youth are entering the job market in India every year, but only 1.4 lakh jobs are being created in the organised sector of the Indian economy annually. What do the remaining youth do? They become hawkers, street vendors, bouncers, stringers, criminals or suicides. Are these "achche din" according to you?
2. Modiji, the Indian youth voted en masse for you in the May 2014 Lok Sabha elections, because they were captivated by your magic slogan of "sab ka vikas", which was understood to have meant that now tens of thousands of factories would be set up, and millions of jobs created for the youth.
But, Modiji, jobs are created when the economy is expanding. The Indian economy is stagnant, and in fact has gone into recession under your rule (thanks to doles to your alleged big business cronies and scatterbrained schemes like demonetisation, which have created havoc). Even many of the existing jobs in India have been lost. Where then is vikas?
3. As regards "achche din", the situation is that lately prices of LPG, petrol, diesel, milk, etc have been hiked. Modiji, achche din chhodiye, ab kamar tod mehngai hai. Kisan atma hatya kar rahen hain. Bharat ke 50% bachche kuposhit hain. Gharib janta ko swastha labh naseeb nahin hai. Achchi shiksha durlabh hai. Modiji, kuch kariye na, desh 'traahi maam, traahi maam' kar raha hai, magar ap Badshah Nero ki tarah sarangi baja rahe hain. Saare desh ko apka hi hai sahara, gharib parwar, paikar-e-insaaf, mai baap. Humari naiya ke ap hi hain khiwaiyan. (Modiji, forget about good days, we are suffering back-breaking inflation. Farmers are committing suicide. Up to 50% of children are malnourished. There are no health benefits trickling down to the poor, a good education is impossible. Modiji, do something... all Indians are pleading for you to rescue them, but you're fiddling like Emperor Nero. The entire country needs your support... you are the shore to our boat.)
