Minorities Development in India

India is a democratic country where people of all community live in peace and harmony. All major religions of the world are found in India. As such, Hindus are the majority community and the minority community includes Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis) as notified under the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.

Minorities are playing a very vital role in India’s political and social upliftment, contributing significantly in the development of our country. Governments from time to time have formulated programmes and schemes for socio-economic upliftment of minorities.

For this purpose Government of India created the Ministry of Minority Affairs, which aims at empowering the minority communities and creating an enabling environment for strengthening the multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-religious character of our nation. It also aims at improving the socio-economic conditions of the minority communities through affirmative action and inclusive development, so that every citizen has equal opportunity to participate actively in building a vibrant nation.


To facilitate an equitable share for minority communities in education, employment, economic activities and to ensure their upliftment, Prime Minister's New 15-Point Programme for the Welfare of Minorities was announced in June, 2006. It provides programme specific interventions with definite goals which are to be achieved in a time bound manner. The objectives of the programme are: (a) Enhancing opportunities for education; (b) Ensuring an equitable share for minorities in economic activities and employment through existing and new schemes, enhanced credit support for self-employment and recruitment to State and Central Government jobs; (c) Improving the conditions of living of minorities by ensuring an appropriate share for them in infrastructure development schemes; and (d) Prevention and control of communal disharmony and violence.

An important aim of the programme has been to ensure that the benefits of various government schemes for the underprivileged reach the disadvantaged sections of the minority communities. In order to ensure that the benefits of these schemes flow equitably to the minorities, the programme envisages location of a certain proportion of development projects in minority concentration areas. The schemes included in the New 15-Point Programme are as under;

• Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme by providing services through Anganwadi Centres {Ministry of Women & Child Development}.
• Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Scheme (KGBV) {Ministry of Human Resources Development}
• Aajeevika{Ministry of Rural Development}
• Swarnajayanti Shahari Rojgar Yojana (SJSRY) {Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation}
• Upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) {Ministry of Labour & Employment}
• Bank credit under priority sector lending {Department of Financial Services}
• Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) {Ministry of Rural Development}

Also acting on the Sachar Committee report, the Government has initiated several measures as:

• Universalization of access to quality education at secondary stage called Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA).
• One model college each would be set up in 374 educationally backward districts (EBDs) of the country. Of 374 EBDs, 67 are among identified minority concentration districts.
• Preference to be given by the University Grants Commission for provision of girls' hostels in universities and colleges in the areas where there is concentration of minorities especially Muslims.
• Area Intensive & Madarsa Modernisation Programme has been revised and bifurcated into two schemes. (a) Scheme for Providing Quality Education in Madarsas (SPQEM). It was attractive provision for better teachers' salary, increased assistance for books, teaching aids and computers and introduction of vocational subjects, etc and the other scheme which provides financial assistance for Infrastructure Development of Private aided/unaided Minority Institutes (IDMI).
• Academies for professional development of Urdu medium teachers have been set up at three Central Universities namely, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Jamia Milia Islamia University (JMIU), New Delhi and Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MAANU), Hyderabad.

Also, the Government has launched the Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) in 2008-09. The programme aims at improving the socio-economic and basic amenity facilities for improving the quality of life of the people and reducing imbalances in the Minority Concentration Districts (MCDs). Identified 'development deficits' are addressed through a district specific plan for provision of better infrastructure for school and secondary education, sanitation, pucca housing, drinking water and electricity supply, besides beneficiary oriented schemes for creating income generating activities. Absolutely critical infrastructure linkages like connecting roads, basic health infrastructure, ICDS centers, skill development and marketing facilities required for improving living conditions and income generating activities and catalyzing the growth process are eligible for inclusion in the plan.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs is also providing several scholarships to the minority communities to empower them educationally and socially across the country. These include: (a) The Pre-matric scholarship scheme. (b) Post-matric scholarship scheme. (c) The Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme. (d) The Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF). (e) The Free Coaching and Allied Scheme. (f) Leadership Development of Minority Women scheme. (g) Grant In Aid Scheme to State Channelising agencies of National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation.

In this way the Government of India is making every effort for upliftment of minorities so that they can stand with others side by side in all spheres of life and live a dignified life.

Experts Say: You alone know where the chili powder and turmeric are kept.And where the knives and plates are. All these can be turned into deadly weapons. If nothing else, start throwing plates and utensils all over.

Let them break. Scream. Remember that noiseis the greatest enemy of a molester. He does not want to be caught.

3} Taking an Auto or Taxi at Night.

Experts Say: Before getting into an auto at night, note down its registration number. Then use the mobile to call your family or friend and pass on the details to them in the language the driver understands .Even if no one answers your call, pretend you are in a conversation. The driver now knows someone has his details and he will be in serious trouble if anything goes wrong. He is now bound to take you home safe and sound. A potential attacker is now your de facto protector!

4}What if the driver turns into a street he is not supposed to - and you feel you are entering a danger zone?

Experts Say: Use the handle of your purse or your stole (dupatta) to wrap around his neck and pull him back. Within seconds, he will feel choked and helpless. In case you don’t have a purse or stole just pull him back by his collar. The top button of his shirt would then do the same trick.

5} If you are stalked at night.

Expert Say: enter a shop or a house and explain your predicament. If it is night and shops are not open, go inside an ATM box. ATM centers always have security guards. They are also monitored by close circuit television.

Fearing identification, no one will dare attack you.

After all, being mentally alert is the greatest weapon you can ever have.

Real story of American Dollar v/s Indian Rupee

Americans understood that Petrol is equally valuable as Gold so they made Agreement with all the Middle East countries to sell petrol in Dollars only. That is why Americans print their Dollar as legal tender for debts. This mean if you don't like their American Dollar and go to their Governor and ask for repayment in form of Gold,as in India they won't give you Gold.

You observe Indian Rupee, " I promise to pay the bearer..." is clearly printed along with the signature of Reserve Bank Governor. This mean, if you don't like Indian Rupee and ask for repayment,Reserve Bank of India will pay you back an equal value of gold.(Actually there may be minor differences in the Transaction dealing rules, but for easy comprehension I am explaining this)

Let us see an example. Indian petroleum minister goes to Middle East country to purchase petrol, the Middle East petrol bunk people will say that liter petrol is one Dollar.

But Indians won't have dollars. They have Indian Rupees. So what to do now? So That Indian Minister will ask America to give Dollars. American Federal Reserve will take a white paper , print Dollars on it and give it to the Indian Minister. Like this we get dollars , pay it to petrol bunks and buy petrol.

But there is a fraud here. If you change your mind and want to give back the Dollars to America we can't demand them to pay Gold in return for the Dollars. They will say " Have we promised to return something back to you? Haven't you checked the Dollar ? We clearly printed on the Dollar that it is Debt"

So, Americans don't need any Gold with them to print Dollars. They will print Dollars on white papers as they like.

But what will Americans give to the Middle East countries for selling petrol in Dollars only?

Middle East kings pay rent to America for protecting their kings and heirs. Similarly they are still paying back the Debt to America for constructing Roads and Buildings in their countries. This is the value of American Dollar. That is why Many say some day the Dollar will be destroyed.

At present the problem of India is the result of buying those American Dollars. American white papers are equal to Indian Gold. So if we reduce the consumption of petrol and cars, Dollar will come down

Buy only products manufactured by WHOLLY INDIAN COMPANIES.Each individual should become a leader for this awareness. This is the only way to save our country from severe economic crisis. You don't need to give-up your lifestyle. You just need to choose an alternate product.

Daily products which are COLD DRINKS,BATHING SOAP ,TOOTH PASTE,TOOTH BRUSH ,SHAVING CREAM,BLADE, TALCUM POWDER ,MILK POWDER ,SHAMPOO , Food Items etc. all you need to do is buy Indian Goods and Make sure Indian rupee is not crossing outside India.

Every INDIAN product you buy makes a big difference. It saves INDIA. Let us take a firm decision today.

we are not anti-multinational. we are trying to save our nation. every day is a struggle for a real freedom. we achieved our independence after losing many lives.

they died painfully to ensure that we live peacefully. the current trend is very threatening.

multinationals call it globalization of indian economy. for indians like you and me, it is re-colonization of india. the colonist's left india then. but this time, they will make sure they don't make any mistakes.

Russia, s.korea, mexico - the list is very long!! let us learn from their experience and from our history. let us do the duty of every true indian. finally, it's obvious that you can't give up all of the items mentioned above. so give up at least one item for the sake of our country!

Muslims in Singapore

Recently while I was living in Singapore, I had the good fortune of interacting with Singaporeans in general and Muslims in particular. We Indians as citizens and as administrators need to learn a lot from them to make our lives organized and rich. I would like to share my insights and experiences as follows.

Singaporeans in general

In general people are polite. They have a penchant for cleanliness and greenery. Houses, housing societies and the roads are clean and green. The metro and the buses are clean. Public transport is fully Air Conditioned. There are no conductors in the buses. Silence is maintained. The driver brings the bus to the side of the bus-stop and stops and waits patiently till everybody gets down and gets in.

There is good governance everywhere. Since Singapore is part of the tropics, it rains through out the year. However, water does not collect on the roads. I came to know that once in a particular area, water was collected. The Corporator was dismissed with immediate effect. (I hope it happens in my country too) . When on a particular line, metro develops technical snag, the travelers in the next two hours will be offered free ride to clear the backlog fast. Otherwise the company running it would be heavily fined by the Government. In another incident where a Minister in the Government who had a secret affair with his colleague. When it was found out, he was compelled to resign from his job with immediate effect. It is strict about its law and order. For example, for the 3rd or subsequent conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol - “A fine up to Singapore $30000/- and imprisonment for up to 3 years, caning of up to 6 strokes should death or serious injury be caused” ( Basic Theory of Driving : The Official Handbook issued by Traffic Police, Singapore). ( It is said that the ruler of Singapore Mr. Lee has Gulf Shaikhs as his friends and incorporated caning in Singapore law from their law.) Today one Singapore dollar costs around Rs.50.

Muslims in Singapore

Singapore is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country. It has four official languages – English, Chinese, Tamil and Malaya. In the buses the instructions are given in all four languages. In 2010, in the total Singaporean population, 74% were Chinese, 13.4 % were Malay, 9.2% were Indians and 3.3% constituted others. 

By religious group, 15% of Singapore population is Muslim. Among them, seventeen per cent are of Indian origin. There are 72 mosques in Singapore. There are 6 full time Madarasas. Some part-time Madarasas also exist. Muslims in Singapore are mostly Shafi. Some Hanafis also exist. Singapore government strongly discourages missionaries from attempts to convert the local Malay population. It is done so as not to cause racial and religious tensions in the predominantly Muslim community. 

Status of Malay Muslims is good in Singapore. Malay are considered as the original people of Singapore and hence enjoy some constitutional rights. They are politically, economically, socially and culturally active. The first president of Singapore was Mr. Yusof Ishak. We see his picture on the currency notes of Singapore. (In Bukit Batok area of Singapore, I saw a secondary school named after him. ) Mr. Ishak’s younger brother is presently a minister. Madam Halimah Yacob is the Speaker in the Parliament of Singapore.

Even though rich and poor divide is increasing in Singapore, most Muslims are doing well economically because it is easier to do business in Singapore. With US$200 , one can start a business. Malay Chamber of Commerce exists and subsidies are given to promote Malay entrepreneurship.

Singapore is an ageing society. Singapore government takes good care of its elderly by having different schemes for elderly. Chinese elderly usually live in old age homes. Among Muslims, the families take care of their elderly.

Singapore has some poor people but the government takes care of them. They are provided with small one-room houses and some monthly maintenance allowance is given to them. 

Masjid is a Multi-functional Institution 

I had the good fortune of visiting a mosque in Singapore viz. Masjid Ar-Raudhah (which happens to be a Malay mosque). It seems to be recently constructed. It does not have regular design of a masjid. The lady K.G. teacher at the mosque explained to me that this was done to make the masjid more energy efficient and more ventilated. I was happy to learn that in Singapore, mosques do not serve just as religious places of worship but they are multi-functional community centers. For example, in Ar-Raudhah, there are two floors, ground is for worship by men and the first floor is for women-worshippers. Here Worship is regularly conducted as any where. Religious lectures are organized. Recently a lecture on ‘ Yawm-al-Hasrah ‘ (Day of Remorse) by Sheikh Dawood Butt was organized. Zakat is compulsorily collected. I picked here pamphlets titled “Zakat on Business” and “Zakat on Shares “. The masjid has a youth group by the name Al Fateh. It conducts a number of programs like religious workshops , family meetings, youth seminars, foot-ball matches, nature tours, etc. through out the year, to make Muslim youth religious, family-oriented, modern, competitive and dynamic.

What is striking to an Indian Muslim is, besides conducting madarasa classes, the masjid has a KG school with in it. All the teachers are women and the principal is also a woman. They are all hejab clad but the faces were open. They were moving around in the masjid freely and prayed regularly in the upper floor of the masjid. Women had regular functions of Quran-recitation and also meetings on community issues. In the Board of Management of the Masjid, women-members are there. 

Another striking feature is that in the masjid, there were pamphlets on different schemes of Singapore government meant for benefit of the common people. At the Masjid, dissemination is given to Muslims about these schemes and they are enabled to apply f or them. For example, pamphlets “Community Health Assisst Scheme is a health scheme “Know Your BMI” and “Healthy Bones Begin with You” for general health were explained to the worshippers. I also saw here pamphlets on the UN Convention on the Rights of Children ( issued by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, Singapore) to educate the parent-worshippers. To empower the vulnerable women and transform them into small entrepreneurs, the NGO ‘PPIS Family Service Centre’, in collaboration with the Singapore Government , organizes a program HOME (Help, Outreach, Motivate and Educate). Muslim women are also educated at the masjid about the economic opportunities to empower themselves. So at the masjid, amazing development work to benefit the Ummah - men, women, youth and children is being done!

Status of Muslim women in Singapore

They are well educated and like other women, are employed in banks, universities and in the ministries. They drive all around. Wearing hejab does not hinder their careers. Women are also in the Parliament, as we noted earlier. For Muslims polygamy is allowed, but it is controlled. Women too can take divorce. Premarital counseling is done.

In Singapore, MUIS (Islamic Religious Council of Singapore) is a constitutional body. It funds all the mosques and guides religious life of Muslims in Singapore. The Imams and Qazis are government employees. If a Muslim man wants to marry again, he will have to approach MUIS. He also has to take permission from the first wife. When MUIS is satisfied that he has taken approval of his wife and has enough income to marry again land support another wife, then only he would be allowed to marry again. Otherwise, it would be a crime. All Muslim marriages are registered with the MUIS. Women are given Mehr at the time of marriage itself. There is no dowry given by the bride’s family. Also among Malays, the husband gives substantial gifts to the bride after marriage. This ceremony is called ‘Hantaran’. Women can approach MUIS to take divorce. MUIS will issue a divorce certificate. On that basis, she can marry again. If she has become a destitute after the divorce, she would be awarded maintenance from the husband and the government will help too.

In Singapore, there is one Dar-ul-Arkan where those who want to convert to Islam visit. It is said that a number of non-Muslims come here to know about Islam and some embrace Islam. After 9/11, this Centre started having more visitors.

Communal Harmony in Singapore

Singapore is often quoted as the model of peaceful and prosperous inter-ethnic and inter-religious coexistence. In 1960, on the day of Idd-e-Milad, when the procession was being taken, there were riots between Muslims and Chinese merchants. After this, the government became very strict and enacted the Racial Harmony Act which bans racial slur whether religious or secular. Ahmed Deedat was banned from speaking in Signapore. Zakir Naik is allowed to visit Singapore but banned from speaking. A Singaporean Mr. Hussein Saynuddin informed that no processions are allowed though it is a democracy. It believes in the philosophy “agree to disagree” At the same time, it is a highly policed state with good intelligence. Juma kutba is the same all over Singapore though it is in different languages. Because of government control, there are no salafi, sufi or tabliqi mosques. An old Mufti Saeed Isa Sameiti had written a famous book “Moderation in Islam”. Most corporates allow their Muslim employees to attend Juma namaz.

In Singapore nobody is above the law. Corruption is not tolerated. Transparent and good governance exists. Government is conscious of opportunity cost of conflict among the communities. So the politicians and the government sincerely and actively promote communally harmony. The government is also conscious of its public image and image with the foreign investors (The international trade of Singapore is 3 times more than its GDP). For communal amity, different measures are implemented. Children are taught tolerance right form childhood. Inter-ethnic youth programs are organized. For example, foot ball matches actively have members from all communities. Festivals are celebrated together. The Singapore Housing Board Societies have quota for different communities with in each society. Only when the quotas are full, the registration of the society would be done.

The Terrorism Part

After 9/11, Internal Security Act was enacted. Any miscreant can be arrested any time under this Act. When some Muslims became emotional and started creating problems for public peace, they were arrested. Singapore government is compassionate. It does not leave its jail-mates to their fate. It reforms them. So these boys were given counseling, reformed and rehabilitated. Other jail-mates are treated similarly.

No wonder that Singapore has become world-renowned and prosperous and an ideal society to emulate.

Social Courtesy and Co-operation are Part of worship when done for the sake of Allah as 

the prophet SAWS says 

Receiving your friend with a smile is a type of charity,

 Helping a person to load his animal is a charity and putting some water in your neighbour’s bucket is a charity.”

“Khidmat” to Empower Minorities through Information: K. Rahman Khan

Platform for up to Date Information in Easy Language through Dialogue

K. Rahman Khan, the Union Minister for Minority Affairs launched a dedicated Toll Free Helpline- 1800 11 2001 with brand name “Khidmat”, here today in presence of Shri Ninong Ering, Minister of State, Ministry of Minority Affairs and Shri Charles Dais, Member Parliament. Dedicating “Khidmat” helpline to the minority people of India, the Minister expressed hope to fulfill the dream of Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi for inclusive growth of all sections, particularly deprived sections of Society. Speaking on the occasion Shri K. Rahman Khan said that the service will empower minorities through up to date information. With helpline being operational, initially, it will remain open from 9:00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on all working days he, added. Depending on success and demand, the Ministry may go even for 24X7 helpline with upgraded facilities. In the changing India, when phone services and mobiles have reached every nook and corner, the dedicated helpline would be a better idea to spread information about development and welfare programmes and related complaints. The right information in time is the power, the Ministry through “Khidmat” helpline endeavours to hand over power to the minority people of all levels equally, the Minister added. This helpline would not only help in inclusive growth of minorities but will also increase transparency and efficiency in governance. The Ministry of Minority Affairs has got the mandate to ensure a focused approach towards issues relating to the notified minorities and to facilitate the formulation of overall policy, planning, coordination, evaluation and review of the regulatory framework and development programmes for the benefit of the minority communities. To fulfill the mandate for minorities, the Ministry formulated and implemented many development and welfare schemes for infrastructure development, educational empowerment, economic empowerment, women empowerment and Wakf development. During the course of implementation of various programmes and schemes, in addition to field level bottlenecks, Ministry experienced that lack of information about the programmes/schemes among target population is one of the most important bottlenecks. Though for last few years, Ministry regularly launched multi-media campaign through print, electronic and new media, yet due to limited shelf life of such mediums the reach of the programmes could not be maximized. The Ministry came up with this dedicated Toll Free Helpline as it felt that the target population requires a platform where they can get up to date information in easy language through dialogue and where their most of the queries may be satisfied. It was also felt that people either do not have access to information available on website or find it difficult and tedious to surf the information on website. Ministry understands that without adequate information about Ministry’s programmes among minorities, it would be very difficult for the Ministry to achieve its goals and mission.

With launch of this helpline, a student sitting in a village or remote area can get instant information at his or her leisure about scholarship schemes. An unemployed minority youth can get instant information about skill development training programmes run by Ministry and employment opportunities.

Give Justice Another Chance

The court verdict on July 25 and sentencing of Shahzad Ahmad on July 30 in the infamous Batla House encounter case has too many gaping holes in it. As some of the crucial issues involved were overlooked by the judge, justice must be given another chance at it.

We have been dismayed by the judgment. We, as the minority suffering most from police prejudice and excesses, do not feel reassured to see the police version being endorsed by the court without giving a proper consideration to the written argument by the defence lawyers.

It is encouraging to know that already the defence has prepared to go in appeal to the High Court. Rightly so, as all the six witnesses in the case were police personnel. Curiously, even they had not seen anybody getting into or out of the Batla House flat during the siege or firing, or soon after it.

The point is, how did Shahzad escape unscathed from the flat surrounded by heavily armed policemen during the encounter and go to a media house. He was arrested a couple of hours later several kilometers away from the encounter site. At the time of the encounter he was not in Batla House, while the prosecution lawyer has been gloating over his achievement in “proving” that he was in the besieged flat during the encounter.

Enigmas like no bullets recovered from the body of Inspector M C Sharma, who died from injuries sustained in the counter, nor any matching of it with the weapons supposedly used by those under siege. Shahzad’s impossible escape from the spot has been taken for granted by the judgment, a “fact” not supported even by the six witnesses, who had not seen anybody getting in or out of the flat.

The six bullet holes in the centre of the top of the crown of the slain youth, Atif, leave everyone amazed as it is impossible to shoot somebody in the centre of the crown in an encounter. The only way of doing it is to force him to sit and shoot him from above.

A number of such questions central to justice in the case, have been left unaddressed. The judge had also rejected the defence plea to visit the area to ascertain the impossibility of a cornered person escaping out of the flat.

As the defence argument and facts have not been given a proper consideration, and the judgment has been merely an endorsement of the police version, the aggrieved must go in appeal to a higher court to complete the due process left incomplete in the judgment.

At the end one must take note of Finance Minister P. Chidambram’s hasty endorsement of the judgment as justification for the police encounter. As lawyer he should know that it was a lopsided judgment of a sessions court most likely to be overturned by a higher court that would take into account all crucial issues overlooked by the lower court. We expect patience and dignity from important government leaders like Mr Chidambram, who happened to be the Home Minister at the time of the encounter. g

Fasting in Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. 

The five pillars are:

Faith - Faith entails believing we should only worship the Creator of the

Universe and not worship human beings, animals, statues, our desires,

or anything else. Faith also entails belief that our Creator sent guidance

of right and wrong via messengers such as Noah, Abraham, Moses, 

Jesus, and the Final Messenger, Prophet Muhammad. (saws)

His message served to purify the guidance of the previous messengers from alterations made by mankind over the centuries. His message also provided a comprehensive set of divine laws for humankind, applicable to all situations for all times to come.

Prayer - Establishing prayer five times a day, serving as a reminder through out the day of our purpose in life: to worship our Creator.

Zakat - Mandatory charity given once a year by those who have the means. Voluntary charity is also heavily emphasized in Islam.

Fasting - Abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations during the month of Ramadan, thereby developing characteristics of patience, self-restraint, and God consciousness.

Hajj - Pilgrimage to the city of Mecca for those who are financially and physically able. It is a spiritual quest of submission to God and purification of the heart.

Why do Muslims Fast?

Every year during the Islamic the month of Ramadan, all Muslims fast daily, from dawn until dusk. Fasting entails abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations. By withholding ourselves from some of our most basic and carnal needs and desires, Muslims develop self-restraint: the ability to stop ourselves from doing something we deeply desire, simply out of obedience to our Creator. This month-long training helps us develop the strength to live a life of purity and obedience to God despite the temptation to sin.

Those who are sick, elderly, traveling, or women who are pregnant or nursing are permitted to break their fast and make up the missed days at a later time. If they are unable to do this, they must feed a needy person for every day missed. Children are required to begin fasting from the age of puberty.

Although fasting is beneficial to health, it is regarded principally as a method of spiritual self purification. For example, by cutting oneself off from worldly comforts, a fasting person gains greater sympathy with those who go hungry, thereby becoming a more compassionate and generous person.

At the end of Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid Al-Fitr. The entire community comes together for special prayers and to congratulate each other. The rest of the day is typically spent visiting friends and family, enjoying time together.

Dear Indians,

You should not be wondering who I am because my name is Rehan Ansari similar to Ahmed or Saeed or Mirza and I am not fictionalizing it. My English may not be as good or I may not appear as intelligent as many of my fellow Indians coming from convents. Still I have a heart which cries and eyes that flows/weep.

During election all parties remember me, some only to provoke my opposition whereas most others as my benefactor. But in the last sixty year I have been pushed to the brink in all spheres of life- courtesy our secular democratic rulers. Then I'm informed through high powered committees that I am the most backward, illiterate, poor and what not - even worse than those who have been deprived of respectable life for ages.

How could I reach such a pass in just sixty years is a riddle with which our sociologist/intellectuals/historians will debate for a long but for me it is not difficult to imagine as I am made to live my fate.

My history begins with our independence when my beloved country was bifurcated (later trifurcated) on communal lines. A great concerted effort was made to make all believe that I shall be made responsible for the path chosen by the stalwarts of freedom struggle. Consequently started large scale communal riots in the early decades causing innumerable economic damage to me. My life, property and prospect became booty to the rioters, most oftenly guided by those who were supposed to protect me. In the ensued frenzy more rioters were mobilised, yatras organised with sole aim of demoralising me to lose my self esteem, self confidence and self reflect. Then the Secular Parties Cap-walllas establish to handover me my report card. But never care to empower us by political representation.

On the other hand “Non-Cap Wallas”-once-communal parties, whose existence depends on our opposition, halt every step, however small it is, in the name of Muslim Appeasement. They Organize Yatras, to demolish Mosque, supervise our genocide, Jailed and Encountered our Youth in a COLD BLOOD or would I say in a well planned way. They deny our right to get justice that led the Supreme Court to order a hearing in the other states. First they plan to encounter us and then plan how to sabotage the case. They claim of development, but what’s the use of it without the security of life, free will and equal opportunity if not a helping hand.

I know the fact these lip services and hypocrisies of Political parties are not limited to the Muslims but our fellow Indians are suffering the same problems.

Despite all these, there are Muslim Achievers in almost every field because of their hard work, entrepreneurship and support from the inherent legacy of helping others in our community. Opportunities created by the free economy and most of all the unending support of my fellow Indians, their sense of Justice as human being helped us grow.

I know that most of the Muslim political leader doesn’t have a public base but dropped in our community from the high command. They sing their party’s song and expect us to dance on it. Our Social and religious leadership lacks knowledge and vision. Scarcity of resources and lack of faith among themselves added to our misery.

I am not frustrated but deeply saddened and scared with the daily state of affairs in our country. I am scared of the biased nature of our intelligence and security agencies. They work in tandem to encounter us as can be seen from the leaked CBI chargsheet in Ishrat Jahan case. Despite the expose, of the involvement of right wing forces belong to Non Cap Wallas’ Parviar, in terror cases, I am afraid of getting arrested after every terrorist attack. I am scared to use Mobile, facebook, twitter or other social networking tools because I might get arrested when I speak against some Thackrey. Freedom of Expression is only permitted when someone abuses our beloved Prophet, Sacred book or great religion.

May be I am being too harsh but the Truth is mostly bitter. I have a wonderful religion and I know many interpretations. I know our religious leaderships come from Madarsas of different sects who are ill- educated to satisfy the educated young mind. They need to learn that the differences among sects are the flexibility allowed in Islam. There is lots of scope for Ijtehad- Interpretations according to the prevailing condition that makes this religion Universal.

We like to be left alone to settle these disputes of interpretation. There can be different explanation of constitution like many courts in our country construe our constitution or applying of law differently. There is always a chance for improvement.

I know Islam and Muslims are used by our political parties to come into existence-read Non Cap Wallas or once- communal parties. I also know that Islam is used globally by some dominant and powerful countries for their energy security. But History will prove their deception.

I know I am hanged to satisfy the collective conscience whereas a terror accused belonging to the Parivars- are paid by our government. My Haj subsidies to be phased out but Bonus are distributed on Diwali. Many other religious Melas, fares, Yatras get government support. My mosques first demolished and then decided to be divided but no punishment for the conspirators. I am also affected by the Corruption, Poverty, hunger, Female Foeticides. But my voice against all these evils did not create sensation hence not covered by our national media.

Yes I require all types of affirmative action to uplift my community. I need Reservations in Education and Employment because I am left behind or in other words to become competent. I need Scholarship because don’t have money to get my livelihood. Need to be kept in Priority Lending Sector by the banks to venture in to small scale business so that I can add up something in the national GDP.

Affirmative actions are not appeasement but Justice for the weaker section of the society. Justice is more important to bring equality and prosperity for all in the society. Above all I need respect, love and security for my life and my family.

My hope lies in my belief in Allah, creator of not only me but the whole universe including, Cap- Wallas , Non- Cap-Wallas and their Parivar. I also believe that the intrinsically just and secular credentials not of any politician but my fellow countrymen will prevail. They will provide security to my life, will fight with me for justice, and will help us grow with them if not polarized by the politicians on communal line.

A fellow Indian wants me to save from the clutches of religious (Islamic) fundamentalism but advocates for Positive Hindutva. He might get some vastanvis, sareshwalas, and siddiquis around Modi but for general Muslims, BJP and Modi is like a saying in Hindi, Karela upar se Neem Chadha, it means “Neem coated Bitter Melon” How can one have it?

May Allah bring Peace, Harmony and Prosperity to our country. Amen!

With all the food and pet products now coming from China, it is best to make sure you read label at the supermarket and especially when buying food products. Many products no longer show where they were made, only give where the distributor is located. The whole world is concerned about China-made "black-hearted goods".

Can you differentiate which one is made in Taiwan or China ? The world is also concerned about GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) foods; steroid fed animals (ex: 45 days old broiler chicken).

It is important to read the bar code to track its origin. How to read Bar Codes....interesting !

If the first 3 digits of the bar code are 690, 691 or 692, the product is MADE IN CHINA.
471 is Made in Taiwan .
If the first 3 digits of the bar code are 00-09 then it's made or sourced in USA.

This is our right to know, but the government and related departments never educate the public, therefore we have to RESCUE ourselves. Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products "MADE IN CHINA", so they don't show from which country it is made. However, you may now refer to the barcode -

9 Qualities Of Truly Confident People

First things first: Confidence is not bravado, or swagger, or an overt pretense of bravery. Confidence is not some bold or brash air of self-belief directed at others.

Confidence is quiet: It’s a natural expression of ability, expertise, and self-regard.

I’m fortunate to know a number of truly confident people.majority are people I’ve met through my career and who work in a variety of industries and professions.

It comes as no surprise they all share a number of qualities:

1. They take a stand not because they think they are always right… but because they are not afraid to be wrong.

Cocky and conceited people tend to take a position and then proclaim, bluster, and totally disregard differing opinions or points of view. They know they’re right – and they want (actually they need) you to know it too.

Their behavior isn’t a sign of confidence, though; it’s the hallmark of an intellectual bully.

Truly confident people don’t mind being proven wrong. They feel finding out what is right is a lot more important than being right. And when they’re wrong, they’re secure enough to back down graciously.

Truly confident people often admit they’re wrong or don’t have all the answers; intellectual bullies never do.

2. They listen ten times more than they speak.

Bragging is a mask for insecurity. Truly confident people are quiet and unassuming. They already know what they think; they want to know what you think.

So they ask open-ended questions that give other people the freedom to be thoughtful and introspective: They ask what you do, how you do it, what you like about it, what you learned from it… and what they should do if they find themselves in a similar situation.

Truly confident people realize they know a lot, but they wish they knew more… and they know the only way to learn more is to listen more.

3. They duck the spotlight so it shines on others.

Perhaps it’s true they did the bulk of the work. Perhaps they really did overcome the major obstacles. Perhaps it’s true they turned a collection of disparate individuals into an incredibly high performance team.

Truly confident people don’t care – at least they don’t show it. (Inside they’re proud, as well they should be.) Truly confident people don’t need the glory; they know what they’ve achieved.

They don’t need the validation of others, because true validation comes from within.

So they stand back and celebrate their accomplishments through others. They stand back and let others shine – a confidence boost that helps those people become truly confident, too.

4. They freely ask for help.

Many people feel asking for help is a sign of weakness; implicit in the request is a lack of knowledge, skill, or experience.

Confident people are secure enough to admit a weakness. So they often ask others for help, not only because they are secure enough to admit they need help but also because they know that when they seek help they pay the person they ask a huge compliment.

Saying, “Can you help me?” shows tremendous respect for that individual’s expertise and judgment. Otherwise you wouldn't ask.

5. They think, “Why not me?”

Many people feel they have to wait: To be promoted, to be hired, to be selected, to be chosen... like the old Hollywood cliché, to somehow be discovered.

Truly confident people know that access is almost universal. They can connect with almost anyone through social media. (Everyone you know knows someone you should know.) They know they can attract their own funding, create their own products, build their own relationships and networks, choose their own path – they can choose to follow whatever course they wish.

And very quietly, without calling attention to themselves, they go out and do it.

6. They don't put down other people.

Generally speaking, the people who like to gossip, who like to speak badly of others, do so because they hope by comparison to make themselves look better.

The only comparison a truly confident person makes is to the person she was yesterday – and to the person she hopes to someday become.

7. They aren’t afraid to look silly…

Running around in your underwear is certainly taking it to extremes… but when you’re truly confident, you don’t mind occasionally being in a situation where you aren't at your best.

(And oddly enough, people tend to respect you more when you do – not less.)

8. … And they own their mistakes.

Insecurity tends to breed artificiality; confidence breeds sincerity and honesty.

That’s why truly confident people admit their mistakes. They dine out on their screw-ups. They don’t mind serving as a cautionary tale. They don’t mind being a source of laughter – for others and for themselves.

When you’re truly confident, you don’t mind occasionally “looking bad.” You realize that that when you’re genuine and unpretentious, people don’t laugh at you.

They laugh with you.

9. They only seek approval from the people who really matter.

You say you have 10k Twitter followers? Swell. 20k Facebook friends? Cool. A professional and social network of hundreds or even thousands? That’s great.

But that also pales in comparison to earning the trust and respect of the few people in your life that truly matter.

When we earn their trust and respect, no matter where we go or what we try, we do it with true confidence – because we know the people who truly matter the most are truly behind us.
