The former owners of the King Cross-based restaurant, RR Associates, pleaded guilty to 13 counts of failing to comply with the Food Standards Code between December 7 and December 21 in 2011. They were fined a total of 97,500 Australian dollar, according to ABC news report.
The report said that when health inspectors went to the restaurant after a customer complaint they found rat droppings in the service area and cupboards, a dead rat behind a bin and evidence of rat nests. Council officers said that some of the rat faeces was on the floor of the kitchen, in the service area and storage cupboards.
The court heard the walls, floors and food contact surfaces were crawling with cockroaches. Council officers said samosas waiting to be cooked were stored directly below shelving encrusted with dirt and the kitchen was infested with cockroaches.

Mallya had got a commission of Rs 51 crore for these guarantees in 2010-11, but the airline has said that payment of such commissions has been withdrawn after directions from the consortium of its lenders.

Syria has hit back at Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, saying his Islamist beard is the only thing that distinguishes him from the veteran strongman he replaced after last year's Arab Spring uprising.
Responding to high-profile criticism from Morsi at a Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran last week, Information Minister Omran al-Zohbi charged that the Egyptian leader was complicit in the armed revolt rocking his country.
"He is responsible for spilling Syrian blood, as are the Qataris, the Saudis and the Turks," Zohbi said.
"The only difference between him and (ousted strongman Hosni) Mubarak is that he has a beard."
The Syrian government prides itself on its secularism.
The Muslim Brotherhood, for which Morsi successfully ran for Egypt's presidency earlier this year, has long been outlawed in Syria on pain of death. It is one of the most powerful factions within the opposition Syrian National Council.

Andhra Pradesh government late Monday night placed a young IPS officer under suspension "in public interest" with immediate effect following a row he had with his senior officer.
Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew issued an order placing B Naveen Kumar, currently Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Rampachodavaram sub-division, under suspension based on an inquiry conducted by Eluru Range Deputy Inspector General of Police G Suryaprakasa Rao.
The 2008-batch officer went public with his allegations that East Godavari District Superintendent of Police Trivikram Varma, his immediate superior, was hand-in-glove with the ganja smuggling gangs. Naveen also alleged that Varma tried to "eliminate" him by causing an accident to his official jeep.
As the two IPS officers got into a public spar, Home Minister Sabita Reddy directed the Eluru DIG to conduct an inquiry.
Even as the DIG submitted his report to the government after recording the versions of the two warring officers, Naveen again went to the media alleging the hand of a DIG and a Director General of Police-rank officers in the ganja smuggling racket.
